Community Food Security is a system approach that addresses hunger and food security at a community level, including building local infrastructure, creating economic and job security, food recovery and donations, education and awareness, and community food production and marketing.
Just like with education, the war in South Sudan has greatly affected food availability thus leaving a majority of people hungry and highly malnourished. Coupled with severe climate in the region, a majority of the population remains vulnerable to hunger and other related diseases that continue to claim many lives. As an initiative of GEPO, we have started offering food donations to the affected community members. While this is not a lasting solution, it helps vulnerable families in the short term. However, for the future we hope to focus more on sustainable agriculture for the locals. This will include drilling boreholes for agricultural production. We will also offer seeds and other assistance to ensure that the community establishes a food secure environment. To achieve the cause, we need partners and donors on board to reach our goals for a better humanity.
The images below show the actual situation that the community faces and the assistance we have provided thus far to improve it. We are creating plans to make food security more sustainable.
